Whole School Routine: Specials
Write a plan for your own system & be as detailed as possible (in the plan make sure you are including leader actions, student actions, teacher actions, and materials)
10 Minutes Prior to Specials: (K-5)
*Students will put masks on before leaving their learning area and lining up in the classroom.
*Students wash hands in the classroom before coming to specials.
*Teachers bring an attendance list to the specials’ Teacher with their assigned number.
*Classroom teachers bring students through the hallways in a counterclockwise direction (coming into the building at PE side and walking all the way around and exiting out by the library).
*Students will bring their chromebooks and their own headphones to STEAM, NO WATER BOTTLES.
*Students WILL bring water bottles to Music and put on the counter on their place that matches their classroom number.
*Students WILL bring water bottles to PE.
Classroom teachers WILL be on time.
Transitions will be the same for inside or outside specials.
Materials:
*Masks
*Soap and water
*Hallway directional signs

50 Minutes of Specials:
*STEAM-Masks on, students will enter and sit at their assigned number, plug in headphones, and begin typing activity. During COVID Phase 1, no shared equipment. If equipment is used it will be cleaned by STEAM Teacher during the last ten minutes of class while students are at a quiet homebase.
*PE-Masks on, enter in on the red line, and set a water bottle against the southwest wall, and then return to the red line still with masks on. If equipment is used it will be cleaned by PE Teacher during the last ten minutes of class while students retrieve their water bottles and go to a quiet homebase.
*Music-Masks on, enter in line, place water bottles on the counter in numbered spots, making a finger-tip to finger-tip circle. Students will wear masks when singing and participating in interactive activities. During COVID Phase 1, no shared equipment. If equipment is used it will be cleaned before used by any other students.
*Masks on the entire time, unless specified by the Specials teacher.
Last 5 Minutes of Specials Time:
*STEAM-Students will continue wearing masks and close chromebooks, wrap up headphones, push their chairs in, and line up at the South door and show hallway expectations.
*Music-Specials teacher will be doing a calming activity while students are grabbing water bottles and going back to their spots. When the classroom teacher arrives, they will line up at the door and show hallway expectations.
*PE-When the Classroom Teacher arrives, students will put their masks on then get in line at the South door and show hallway expectations.
*Students will wash their hands when they get back to class.
*Classroom teachers will walk the students through the hallway in the same counterclockwise direction (exiting by the Library / South side).
Teachers WILL be on time to pick up students and need to exit immediately for next class. (If line procedures need to be practiced, it will need to be done at a different time).
All adults should use the most least invasive form of redirects

Non-verbal redirects (Hand gestures like finger in front of mask for quiet reminder)

Use of proximity-stand beside or behind a student

Modeling what to do (ex. How to line up/sit down/transition to the carpet)

Scholars who do not follow directions during specials transition:
